The Board of directors of the State Trading Corporation (STC) of Mauritius was entirely dismissed and subsequently reconstituted.

The reconstituted board introduced some changes but mostly a simple rollover of identical members. A prominent businessman, a close friend of the Minister was appointed as the part-time Chairperson, two independent members with 4 Public officials representing the concerned Ministries and a representative from the MPA. The STC's executive operations continue to be run by General Manager Suren Dayal, who maintains his management position alongside the new advisory board.

In the aftermath of the budget, the Banking Act was amended on 31st July 2026 to discharge a bank or other financial institution from the strict duty of confidentiality in disclosing customer information to the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC). A financial institution is now required to provide customer information to the FCC, without the requirement of a Judge’s order, in compliance with “an order or notice under the FCC Act 2023”.

The budget deficit, including higher pension spending, and exclusive of the uncertain receipt of Chagos rental income of Rs10.6 bn, would thus stand at around Rs48 bn, or 5.7% of GDP, compared to a deficit of Rs41 bn, or 5.4% of GDP in 2025-26.

They had overestimated the tax receipts for FY 25-26 by some Rs 10 bn .

We think that the tax receipts estimated to be around Rs 198 bn for FY 26-27, an increase of some Rs 20 bn, is also an overestimate .

If we take into consideration this overestimate , this may lead us to conclude that despite the contested ,unpopular and revolting pension reform , the consolidated budget deficit will remain more or less around 5.7% of GDP in FY 26-27.

Representatives from Eco-Sud, the Aret Kokin Nu Laplaz (AKNL) platform and the MRU2025 were protesting at Balaclava to express their concern that a section of public beach had apparently been removed from the public domain. This section amounting to nearly 40% of the public beach and declassified in 2008, has been incorporated into the lease of a local hotel.

They got rid of him, the firm and uncompromising CEO of the FSC .

He was brought in to clear the cobwebs, the muck in an institution where patronage and lack of governance had corrupted an ecosystem in which reform had become hard and disruption even more difficult. The institution was in dire need of the moral and intellectual stimulation and the ethical coordinates that he brought in .

In a country that does not innovate and in a country where you barely have any Major International banks that have come. I mean, we've seen HSBC. We've seen what has happened to deutsche bank. We really haven't gotten anybody since standard chartered and standard bank. And of course that Nigerian entity, that's not the same level. And they can't really do much value. Add in Mauritius. It seems in any way they're having issues with their own regulator on the expansion that they have done. So basically, mauritius lacks this ecosystem because of all the stupid scandals that the country has had, which has heard its reputation.And what you will see is that over time, you know, investors are going to leverage other jurisdictions, and as i've always said, when you have a negative outlook, people already adapt, you don't have to wait to become b a one so whatever bad thing people think is gonna happen to your credit rating.Downgrade, if it happens one day, it's already sort of happened.And that's what people very often don't get.Because markets are forward looking, they're not backward.Looking boardrooms, don't wait for downgrades and react.They react before things happen, and mauritius has already been priced.As a b a one country

We seem to be losing track of the essential. We have seen it at MoFED,at SBM, Mts Telecom, at CEB , at MauBank, CWA and now at one of our prime institutions, the BOM…The culture of impunity goes on year year after year, government after government.
