Let us go along with those who are arguing that there were no other option than to implement the Pension Reform ?- the very ones who were “tap la tab” in the National Assembly when the calamitous reform measures were being announced.

While other members of the Govt are unhappy about the pension reform , Ashok Subron. the Minister for Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, is welcoming the pension reform announced in the 2026–2027 Budget, stating that it is in line with the principles of solidarity and social justice. They had overestimated the tax receipts for FY 25-26 by some Rs 10 bn .

We think that the tax receipts estimated to be around Rs 198 bn for FY 26-27, an increase of some Rs 20 bn, is also an overestimate .

If we take into consideration this overestimate , this may lead us to conclude that despite the contested ,unpopular and revolting pension reform , the consolidated budget deficit will remain more or less around 5.7% of GDP in FY 26-27.

This section amounting to nearly 40% of the public beach and declassified in 2008, has been incorporated into the lease of a local hotel.

They finally did it ! We saw it coming !

They got rid of him, the firm and uncompromising CEO of the FSC .

He was brought in to clear the cobwebs, the muck in an institution where patronage and lack of governance had corrupted an ecosystem in which reform had become hard and disruption even more difficult. In a country that does not innovate and in a country where you barely have any Major International banks that have come. I mean, we've seen HSBC. We've seen what has happened to deutsche bank. We really haven't gotten anybody since standard chartered and standard bank. And of course that Nigerian entity, that's not the same level. And they can't really do much value. Add in Mauritius. It seems in any way they're having issues with their own regulator on the expansion that they have done. So basically, mauritius lacks this ecosystem because of all the stupid scandals that the country has had, which has heard its reputation.And what you will see is that over time, you know, investors are going to leverage other jurisdictions, and as i've always said, when you have a negative outlook, people already adapt, you don't have to wait to become b a one so whatever bad thing people think is gonna happen to your credit rating.Downgrade, if it happens one day, it's already sort of happened.And that's what people very often don't get.Because markets are forward looking, they're not backward.Looking boardrooms, don't wait for downgrades and react.They react before things happen, and mauritius has already been priced.As a b a one country

BoM has announced on 30 Mar 2026 that the conservatorship of Silver Bank Ltd has been terminated and a receiver has now been appointed. As the public is aware, serious fraudulent transactions and other banking malpractices occurred at Silver Bank which led to the appointment of a Conservator by BoM in Feb 24. Silver Bank was the successor to Banyan Tree Bank, after Prateek Gupta’s spouse was allowed to buy over Banyan Tree Bank, which should have instead been liquidated for bankruptcy.
