𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 ?

(As I had pointed out in my article published in L’express of the 24th June, I do not believe that attempts to revive the dying low-tax liberal economy model by such measures as means test or targeting of pensions will help in reforming an unjust, unequal, unfair system - it's only a kind of compromise that satisfies the ultimate beneficiaries of the present economic system-the low tax liberal model)

Let us go along with those who are arguing that there were no other option than to implement the Pension Reform ?- the very ones who were “tap la tab” in the National Assembly when the calamitous reform measures were being announced.

O𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒚𝒊𝒔𝒎, 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚 !

If we want our institutions to deliver , to remain relevant, functioning and innovative , we must be prepared to put the right people in the right place -the competent ones, the specialists, the ecologists, the experts, the innovator, the committed… a chance to leverage their specialised knowledge , their tech-skills and innovation drive to bring du “Vrai Sanzman” and meet the challenges ahead.

𝐋𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐝’𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐤 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐧 !!!

While other members of the Govt are unhappy about the pension reform , Ashok Subron. the Minister for Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, is welcoming the pension reform announced in the 2026–2027 Budget, stating that it is in line with the principles of solidarity and social justice. (sic)

𝐀𝐩 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐤𝐲𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐏𝐌? 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥-𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 !

Once is forgivable, twice…that’s a bit too much !

They had overestimated the tax receipts for FY 25-26 by some Rs 10 bn .

We think that the tax receipts estimated to be around Rs 198 bn for FY 26-27, an increase of some Rs 20 bn, is also an overestimate .

If we take into consideration this overestimate , this may lead us to conclude that despite the contested ,unpopular and revolting pension reform , the consolidated budget deficit will remain more or less around 5.7% of GDP in FY 26-27.

There's a real opportunity indeed to do the right thing, and even prevent this from happening again, Hon. Minister Mohamed.

In the National Assembly recently, the PM defended the decision taken by the Bank of Mauritius to raise interest rates by 0.25 percentage point and blamed it all on the mishandling of the economy by the previous Govt, notably by allowing for excessive monetary expansion, and a massive depreciation of the rupee.

Replying to the PQ from MP, A. Ramdass , in respect of allegations of money printing to the tune of Rs 83 billion by our Pada ,gone beserk, the PM accused the latter of undermining the confidence in our institutions and financial system by his unfounded allegations and misinformation .
