Mr Finette possesses high-level administrative credentials, with deep roots within the ruling political structure and is a long-standing confidant of Navin Ramgoolam, whom he describes as a trusted childhood friend.
His appointment is, however, being perceived by some as a traditional political reward rather than a selection based entirely on objective, competitive meritocracy.
Why is it being perceived as another of the “nominations bidons, enn lot ban kopains dinosaurs" ?
When a country wants to build ties with a top economic power like Germany, the choice of who to send depends heavily on what that country wants to achieve. Different backgrounds bring different strengths to a diplomatic mission.
𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚'𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 ? 𝑵𝒆𝒌 𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝓷 𝒅𝒊𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒏 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒄 à 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒄 ? 𝑱𝒐𝒃𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒚𝒔 !!!
We have yet to be convinced that Mr Finette’s appointment would bring specific advantages- for e.g 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑨𝑰, 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚, 𝒐𝒓 𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒆, 𝒗𝒊𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒕-𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕-𝒖𝒑 𝒉𝒖𝒃𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒓 𝑴𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒉-for the country
There are likely to be more doubters, more skeptics feeling that this appointment is a missed opportunity for the country.
