We cannot succeed without questioning the current economic model. The low-tax, liberal economy is the primary driver of the systemic inequality and exclusion. Its growth has come at the expense of the welfare state. This has led to deteriorating standards in education, health, social infrastructure, public administration, etc.. disproportionately affecting some communities more than others.
Any effort to uplift deprived communities through targeted, inclusive policies will merely be cosmetic, rather than providing a long-term solution.
Otherwise, we risk falling into the trap of identity politics, pitting “nou ban" against “zot ban" while fighting for the scraps left behind by the economic elite. Instead of assessing proposals based on merit, economic viability, or national progress, the conversation shifts to ethnic calculations: which community benefits, and which community loses?
More than fifty years after independence, many of those who are at the forefront criticizing inequality and exclusion are still fighting for these same crumbs, refusing to challenge the oligarchs and conglomerates who continue to prosper.
