The new political parties

Most of the mainstream political parties and the new ones, as I had written earlier in my article “The resurgence of identity politics”-see my blog- cannot transcend identity politics . Even some of the religious leaders have joined in the fray - Jean-Maurice Labour of the diocese of Port Louis at a press conference on the ethnic census had this to say: “ The minority of yesterday is no longer the minority of today.”
They are stuck in the majority-minority divide. They are fighting mainly for a change of the political system; they limit their demand to social justice in the narrow terms of caste and community socio-economic uplift without re-examining the use of our resources in relation to the country’s needs, including social and community needs, the natural environment and the impact of property development on our environment.
Indeed, the quest “du vrai changement” should be, above all, a call for a new economic paradigm that will dramatically change the socio-economic fibre of Mauritius, and especially one that will attend to the interest of "the many, not the few", for a rising economic tide that could lift all boats instead of polarising the country between few haves and many have-nots.
They will all claim that they are fighting for all Mauritians. With the exception of the leftist parties like ReA, every time, it is the same show, because we have become consummate schizophrenics, perfecting it daily-being a fake Mauritian national and a true ethnic Mauritian. Le comble !!! We feel so proud about it!!! Everyone is complicit - we the people, the media, the politicians. We are corrupting the concept of “Mauritianism”. It comes as a very handy slogan to hide our pettiness, our inacceptance of diversity, our narrow-mindedness that truth or the basic principles of life or moral ethics etc. are expressed only in our own religion,in our caste or ethnicity, our own culture , among nou banne.(which explains some of the proselytising activities)
The new political parties like ID or...are no exception. They are not the worst of the lot; on the contrary, they are a better lot-honest,confident, competent , equally qualified and less likely to be "rodeur boutes" but they come with a specific agenda that is not much different from the majority v/s minority divide - limiting their demand to a greater share of the spoils of the State for the minority/ies of yesterday-the same `’noubanisme`’
