The Cap Tamarin Smart City impacting on livelihoods of fishermen

The developments taking place in the integrated village project implemented by the Trimetys company in Cap Tamarin are impacting on the livelihoods of a group of fishermen from the region who fear the harmful effects on the barachois of Tamarin. “The main cause for concern is the construction of a rainwater retention basins and settlement tanks which would affect the marine ecosystem and the environment and threaten the livelihoods of fishermen in the area” according to Licmand Aunund, representative of Solidarité Anti-Pollution Ouest (SAPO), who has alerted the authorities.
How many of our “concerned” environmentalists and ecologists who were present at the historical march of Saturday 29 August , will lend their support to SAPO ?
Is it not time now to start questioning the present environment policies - a limit to the construction of hotels, to the encroachment of our public beaches, to a new Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA) bill and an end to the Real Estate Schemes ?
