The abolition of ‘lifelong privileges’ granted to former prime ministers and presidents, was among the commitments announced by Sébastien Lecornu upon his arrival at Matignon. As of 1 January 2026, the drivers and security officers assigned to these former politicians will be withdrawn. Here we have former presidents ek ex-parlmentaires ki koz gran gran kozé lor pension reform ek pauvreté, but still cling to their privileges despite "ki la caisse vide." It is unacceptable to ask LePep to make sacrifices without our present and previous politicians themselves doing so.
Let’s begin 2026 with Govt formalising its solidarity with LePep
Taking the French Govt as an example , our Govt should announce that the ‘lifetime’ benefits of former members of the Government will be abolished as of 1 January 2026.
It may be a drop in the ocean compared to all the privileges enjoyed by politicians, cabinets, senior civil servants, consulates, embassies and everyone else. It may not amount to much but it will confirm a newly found solidarity of Govt with the “serr sintir” imposed on LePep.
