We are deeply shocked and strongly condemn the use of force against a sovereign country and its president.
Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva wrote on X that the actions "cross an unacceptable line", adding that "attacking countries in flagrant violation of international law is the first step 𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒂 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒐𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚".
Colombian President Gustavo Petro called the strikes an "assault on the sovereignty" of Latin America, while Chile's President Gabriel Boric expressed "concern and condemnation" and called for "a peaceful solution to the serious crisis affecting the country".
The African Union communique does not even mention US, let alone condemn its action!
The implications of the US action will reverberate forward, way beyond Venezuela's borders.
But how credible is the stand of some of these countries ! How credible is the stand of some of our leftist friends !
An assault on sovereignty !
That was our stand when Russia, on 24 February 2022 ,invaded Ukraine. The fighting has caused hundreds of thousands of military casualties and tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilian casualties. As of December 2025, Russian troops occupy almost 20% of Ukraine.
What were Brazil’s and South Africa’s stand then ?
Apart from voting in favour of a United Nations resolution condemning the Russian aggression, Brazil under the new administration of Lula did not take a clear side in the conflict. Lula continued 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒐𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒕 𝒃𝒚 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕-𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒓.
South Africa (SA) had abstained from UN votes condemning Russia, citing the need for engagement rather than just condemnation. SA led an African delegation to Ukraine and Russia to promote peace, focusing on issues like grain/fertilizer security and prisoner swaps.

Much like accusations against Russia in Ukraine, which is specifically targeting resource-rich eastern and southern regions of Ukraine (Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson ) that contain critical minerals, energy reserves, and agricultural assets, the U.S. is being accused of imperialism for its stated intent to "run" Venezuela to exploit its oil reserves and control its huge mineral reserves.
These three leaders Xi, Putin and Trump get along because they view international relations through a lens of deals and power exchanges while not encroaching on their respective spheres of influence. Indeed, over and above the conflicts that may pit them against each other, the three men have much in common.

"All the more so, as the renewals the three "bros" have promised to their peoples, require the domination of other peoples, starting with their neighbours – who have the misfortune of being smaller than them.
Putin is sowing death and destruction in the war of aggression he has been waging for three years against Ukraine, a country whose existence, let alone independence, he does not recognize. Through his local despot, he has seized control of Belarus. He has destabilized Georgia and threatened Moldova. He is incapable of imagining Russian happiness existing within Russia's borders.
Xi has used force to settle disputes with his Pacific neighbors. He has seized and militarized islets that Vietnam, the Philippines or others had felt fell under their sovereign rights. He has threatened to retake Taiwan by force. His economic policy has all the trappings of a trade war."
These critics and analysts point to their shared view of making their country great -a nationalist worldview that favors personal diplomacy over traditional alliances .
