After what we have experienced under the MSM regime during Sooroojdev Phokeer's tenure as Speaker-the "verbal bouncer" style, the deterioration of debate quality and decorum, the executive dominance and weakened accountability, the impartiality and the restrictions on the Opposition- we were expecting that things will improve under Alliance du Sanzman!

We thought they will break new ground in upholding parliamentary democracy , opening up debates on issues crucial for the nation , engage in fruitful intellectual debate and encourage a culture of discussion and tolerance.
Unfortunately, the atmosphere in the National Assembly can still be described as tense, with frequent verbal clashes, shouting, and a lack of mutual respect among members, raising fresh concerns about discipline during proceedings and a disproportionate use of power to silence dissent. They were more inclined in defending party lines rather than engaging in meaningful discussions.

Episodes like these are a death knell for democracy; we have lost the capacity to engage in intellectual debate; such attacks close the routes to fruitful debates and discussions .
Our representatives seem to have forgotten that the National Assembly serves as the cornerstone of democracy, acting as a crucial forum for vigorous debate, decisive action, and the implementation of necessary reforms. It is within this institution that diverse perspectives are aired, legislation is crafted, and governments are held accountable, ensuring that the will of the people is represented and the nation can adapt to changing needs.
Until our representatives learn to develop a culture of discussion and tolerance, we have a humble request to protect the future generation from imbibing such behaviour.
