Fête du travail : Marked my presence

The Alliance du Changement was laying wreaths in Guy Rozemont Square and St Jean cemetery which was followed by the gathering of supporters in a supposed fervent display of "political fervour" at Edward VII Square in Rose-Hill.
I made sure that I marked my presence at both events making myself noticeable to the big shots of L’Alliance du Changement or L’alliance du Status Quo , (especially for the grudging rodeur boutes still waiting for the proverbial boutes )
You won’t blame me for that ; there were so many of them like me around expecting at least a nomination on a board or as CEO of a parastatal...given the lots of "bidon" nominations that are going on …If Lormus can make it avec son "impeccable" françois, why can't I ?
I even wore a red shirt, hoping to catch the attention of the “Gang of five “ who, according to the underground network, hold the final say on nominations and appointments. I tried to rub shoulders with some of them but it proved to be a Herculean task to get near them or any of the leaders. There were so many competitors vying for attention and recognition- “I’m here at your service! What are you waiting to appoint me?”
I walked around chatting here and there with the hardcore militants ; they were not that enthusiastic , a bit low, a bit let down and looking a bit devoid of momentum or hope ..I may be exaggerating but the thrill, the exuberance of the moment was absent as it used to be among the militants in the past…they felt as if they had experienced something like that in the past , that sense of betrayal still lingered on….distinct patches of this mood seem to prevail on the horizon. Even the speeches of the top leaders , calling for solidarity for the hard days ahead , seem absurd because they have not yet realised that they already lost the communion with their own , with their voters, with their militants .
I avoided the ReAs among the crowd as they may scuttle my chances of a nomination given my criticism of their temporisation on the Public Enquiries Bill.
I also avoided the Ministry of Finance people , whom I have blamed for not making "LePep" conscious of the gravity of our present economic situation. The Deputy PM had to come to rescue acknowledging that the Govt has no choice but to present "un Budget difficile”, at least conceding that it’s hard to peddle too much of high hopes and expectations when so much of the latest news/reports is downright apocalyptic.
I mixed around with my friends “rodeur boutes “, who were more tied up in ensuring that they were seen to be keenly listening and kowtowing to the monologic oratories of their new political leaders..... I cut it short and went back home expecting a call from may be the “Gang of Five “…Do you think I stand a chance ? After all I tried by marking my presence!
Is this not how the nominations are carried out in this country , without any transparency or meritocracy ( in the sense of a fairer and more accessible meritocratic ladder )
Forget about the announced "Parliamentary Appointment Committee", that was for the gallery !
