New institutions for the cronies- Economic and Research Bureau and Economic Advisory Council supplementing the EDB, all under the Ministry of Finance !!!
It comes as no surprise to us. You recall at the time of the creation of the EDB, we had argued that the EDB has been saddled with too many objectives and that the formulation of economic strategy and policy should be entrusted to a dedicated broad-based committee or agency, under the aegis of the Prime Minister’s office.
At the MoF, there are only number crunchers, there is no strategic thinking and research, in the evaluation and assessment of the impact of the programmes and policies and in advising government accordingly. Presently there is very little analysis of how the policies/projects/programmes taken together will impact at the national level.
These new units, which are likely to be staffed by a carefully selected coterie of advisers will be another farce like the EDB.
