The abolition of ‘lifelong privileges’ granted to former prime ministers and presidents, was among the commitments announced by Sébastien Lecornu upon his arrival at Matignon. As of 1 January 2026, the drivers and security officers assigned to these former politicians will be withdrawn.

On the occasion of the MMM's end of the year reception at Domaine Anna, the DPM delivered a short but quite sharp and fiery speech , taking stock of 2025 challenges and achievements and earmarking 2026 as a pivotal year for Mauritius, for several key institutions in the country , for the fight against corruption (no more of by-catch deals !) and for the MMM. He also emphasised that his Govt has succeeded in putting the economy back on track.

Following every PRB report, I’ve been reiterating my call for the abolition of the Pay Research Bureau. It’s a national deceit , a total rip-off orchestrated by bureaucrats and administrators for their own benefit.

In the wake of Navin Ramgoolam's statements on Radio Plus, some of our so-called top political analysts were on the programme ‘Au Cœur de l'Info’ to offer a critical analysis.

There were a few good suggestions- in line with what we have been recommending in these very posts- the need for a full-time finance minister (and a new team at the Ministry of finance), less of nominations bidons meaning -the right skills for the right jobs, ....

But LePep and the trade unionists are still having some doubts .

The aim is to protect our young people from the harmful display of these debates !

After what we have experienced under the MSM regime during Sooroojdev Phokeer's tenure as Speaker-the "verbal bouncer" style, the deterioration of debate quality and decorum, the executive dominance and weakened accountability, the impartiality and the restrictions on the Opposition- we were expecting that things will improve under Alliance du Sanzman!
