When humility makes us real !

Some 14 hrs back, one of the breaking news in Financial Times was “We have no beds, we have no oxygen: Covid overwhelms Beijing’s hospitals." China’s coronavirus exit wave overwhelms one of the country’s best healthcare systems.
Chinese officials estimate about 250mn people or 18 per cent of the population were infected with Covid-19 in the first 20 days of December, as Beijing abruptly dismantled restrictions that had contained the disease for almost three years.
Another headline was that “Coronavirus infections rise in England for fourth week". Hospital admissions for Covid and flu also increasing fast, particularly among the elderly.
You recall that during and post-covid there was a certain degree of triumphalism and sometimes arrogant tone coming from some of our top advisers cum politicians , the "agents" and the “nou bann” followers, bragging then about China's zero-Covid policy and even pointing to the calamitous number of covid deaths in other countries.
We will not go to the extent of accusing them of being advocates of the so-called “Asian values” or of supremacist ideologies. We have become immune to such idiosyncrasies now; it is just that occasionally one of our many latent “nou bann” silos succeed in escaping from the clutches of our “ vivre-ensemble” to spew out some venoms…it happens in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic nation still forging ahead to build up its “Mauritianism”.
But ladies and gentlemen, we should try harder , perhaps this quote may help : “Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real.
